Sheena is passionate about helping people identify their strengths and gain perspective to work through life’s challenges. She believes as Maslow said, “In any moment, one can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth”. Sheena is a Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience and education in counselling individuals, couples, and families.
Sheena draws from many approaches to match her clients’ needs. These include emotion-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, non-violent communication, and family systems therapy. She is also a certified yoga teacher and incorporates mind-body techniques when appropriate.
Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Social Work, as well as a Master’s Certificate in Public Management. She has advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), emotion-focused therapy with couples, mindfulness-based therapy, stress management and relaxation, mediation and conflict resolution, dealing with workplace harassment, sexuality, crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment and prevention, among others. She is an approved provider of Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.
Social action is important to Sheena, and she volunteers for with a number of organizations serving vulnerable people, including assisting newcomers to Canada and providing support to LGBT youth. In her spare time, she enjoys being active with her family and her many sports pursuits.
